Description

Good Works Farm is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a future farm community for individuals with Autism. Proposed site for the farm is SW Ohio. Our goal will be to serve 2,000 individuals through the residential, day programming, and summer camp programs. We plan to be operational within 5 years. We are following the training modules created by Bittersweet Farm called WISDOM (Why Invent Solutions? Duplicate Our Methods). This proven support greatly increases the chances for success. Some startling statistics:~The latest data indicates that 1 in 50 now have an autism diagnosis (CDC)~More than 80% of adults with autism between 18 and 30 still live at home (Easter Seals)~There is an 81% unemployment rate among adults with autism (CARD)~78% of families are unfamiliar with agencies that could help them (CARD)~At least 500,000 children with autism will become adults during the next decade, and they will need homes, jobs, friends and a future.A farm model provides participants with rich, varied, and abundant opportunities for self-paced and distraction-free activities that are fulfilling and meaningful. Crop sharing will provide the community with chemical-free produce and free range eggs. Because this is a lifespan model, turnover is rare and waiting lists are long in the few farms that exist. We think the only way they will be able to access an agricultural model is to come together with others to create a model in their own area. -- ac-aa.org. Thank you for your support.
