• Diller Scofidio + Renfro is an interdisciplinary design studio that works at the intersection of architecture, the visual arts, and the performing arts. Founded in 1979, the New York City-based practice established its identity through self-generated, theoretical art installations before reaching international prominence through projects such as Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, the renovation and expansion of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York, and the High Line, an urban park built on an abandoned elevated railway trestle on Manhattans west side. Today, DS+R is led by four partnersElizabeth Diller, Ricardo Scofidio, Charles Renfro and Benjamin Gilmartinwho collaborate on the design of each project with a staff of 100 architects, artists, researchers, and writers.DS+Rs international body of architectural work includes the recently completed Vagelos Education Center at Columbia Universitys Medical Center in New York; Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive at the University of California; The Broad, a contemporary art museum in downtown Los Angeles; McMurtry Art & Art History Building at Stanford University; Center for Creative Arts at Brown University; and Blur Building, a pavilion built of fog built for the Swiss Expo.The studios in-progress projects include the Museum of Image & Sound on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janiero; HY15, a 72-story residential tower and The Shed, a start-up cultural institution, both in New Yorks Hudson Yards; the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) Expansion, and the Columbia University Graduate School of Business, both in New York City; Zaryadye Park, next to the Kremlin in Moscow; the United States Olympic Museum in Colorado Springs; Holy Cross Performing Arts Center at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA; and the Centre for Civilizations and Culture at the University of Toronto.
