• The Wyakin Foundation is a nonprofit organization providing a comprehensive training package for wounded and injured post 9/11 veterans to include: Educational assistance, training, mentoring, and robust networking. The Wyakin Warrior program specifically targets Veterans who have the interest and motivation to contribute as leaders in business, government and their communities.According to Native American legend, a Wyakin is a spiritual guide that advises and protects a person throughout life. As a rite of passage, a young Native American was taken to an isolated mountain location where the child remained alone until the Wyakin (often an animal such as an eagle or a wolf) appeared in a vision or dream. (Our Brothers Keeper by Richard Littell)There are six major tenets of the Wyakin Foundations program:1. Multi-faceted mentoring program individually tailored to meet each Warriors unique needs.2. Professional Development Individual Development Plans by which staff and volunteers help coach the warriors toward their goals; and monthly seminars by leaders in business, government, and community service fields.3. Educational/Financial Assistance (complementing the GI Bill or Vocational Rehabilitation).4. Community Service Project To demonstrate opportunity and ability to become servant leaders and role models.5. Robust Networking designed to facilitate job placement.6. Annual proactive follow up to monitor, and assist if necessary, personal and professional situations (Wyakin Warrior for Life).The Wyakin Foundation was founded to help enable severely wounded and injured post 9/11 veterans achieve personal and professional success as business and community leaders. The foundation provides multifaceted mentoring, financial support, professional development, and networking tailored to each young veterans unique journey, leading to an education and meaningful employment.
