When Chris Wolff met Dr. Greg Brewster at DePaul Universitys Computer Science Department, he brought with him a book, written by Dr. Peter F. Jackson, titled Natural Language Processing for Online Systems. The work pioneered by Dr. Jackson combined with Chriss vision led to the successful creation of CaRE (Categorization and Retrieval Engine) for ALR (American Law Reports). CaRE resulted in a 90% reduction in cost for ALR and is now found in dozens of products across all the verticals at Thomson Reuters, including WestLaws revolutionary KeyCite. CaRE proved the incredible power of NLP (Natural Language Processing) when combined with Categorization and Search. Years later, Vertical Data was founded. A Web-based version of CaRE was desired by the rest of world to effectively deal with the daunting Massive Data issues continually faced from this obstacle, ACRE was born. ACRE intuitively combines various General Purpose Technologies, the Internet, NLP, and Machine Learning. Therefore, creating a disruptive capability that will transform productivity in the world of Massive Data.
