• The Vermont Program for Quality in Health Care (VPQHC) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization devoted to creating a culture of quality through education, measurement and collaboration. Designated by the Vermont Legislature in 1988 as an independent, non-regulatory, peer review committee, VPQHCs stakeholder Board of Directors includes providers, insurers, employers, consumers and state regulators. VPQHC staff leverage their backgrounds in clinical nursing, epidemiology, information technology and project management to support the diverse work of the organization.VPQHC supports the states continuing health care reform efforts by analyzing and reporting health care data that helps hospitals navigate delivery system changes and ensure quality service delivery. The organization is currently collaborating with the Vermont Department of Health (VDH) Office of Rural Health and Primary Care to improve hospital-based transitions and care coordination with the ultimate goal of reducing hospital readmissions. VPQHC also works with VDH to improve patient safety and infection surveillance and reporting in hospitals and long-term care facilities throughout the state.VPQHC brings regional and national quality initiatives that focus on care improvement strategies and best practice directly to local hospital quality staff through educational forums, webinars and ongoing support. Along with its work with VDH, VPQHC collaborates also with Vermont Association for Hospital and Health Systems, State Health Providers, the Vermont Ethics Network, the Vermont Blueprint for Health and the Green Mountain Care Board to ensure that quality services are delivered to all Vermonters. Through coupling measurement science with education and support for quality improvement initiatives, VPQHCs work ultimately guides statewide policy recommendations. .
