- Our mission is to foster joy, literacy, and critical thinking in children and teens from all backgrounds through creative writing. Writopia Lab is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that runs creative writing workshops for writers ages 6 to 18. Founded in New York City in 2007, Writopia Lab has grown into a national community of young writers ages 6-18. We have locations throughout the New York City; Washington, DC; Los Angeles; and Chicago regions. We also provide Skype sessions for young writers around the country and the world. For the last several years, more students from Writopia Lab than from any other school have been recognized at both the regional and national levels in the Scholastic Art & Writing awards. Our Worldwide Plays Festival celebrates the work of young playwrights. Each year, our professional theatre company produces over 100 thrilling, hilarious, and poignant plays written by New York Citys and the worlds top playwrights ages 6 to 18!
