• The name ESPEROS is derived from the Spanish verb esperar, which means 'to hope.' To us, there are few things that contribute more to a person's sense of dignity or which provide as much hope for a better tomorrow as an education. Our goal at ESPEROS, therefore, is to help provide an education to as many people as possible: to give them hope for a brighter future.ESPEROS came to life in the fall of 2011, shortly after our founder, Oliver Shuttlesworth, returned from a trip to rural Central America. After witnessing firsthand the debilitating effects of extreme poverty on the children in those areas, he became resolved to help make a difference. The idea for ESPEROS sprang from a problem we didnt feel was being adequately addressed: the lack of access to education for impoverished children in developing countries.So we came up with what we thought was a sensible solution: ESPEROS would sell backpacks and other book bags and help send a child in need to school for a year with each purchase. With current estimates indicating there are between 80-120 million school-aged children without access to an education, we're hoping to bring that number down by empowering our customers to provide these children with the immeasurable gift of an education - allowing them to carry hope - wherever they go.
