• Susan G. Komen Philadelphia, established in 2001, serves the 15 counties of Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware,Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery, Philadelphia, and York in Pennsylvania; Kent, New Castle, and Sussex in Delaware; and Camden County in New Jersey. Since Komen Philadelphia was started in 2001, over $55.5 million has been distributed in grants to local organizations providing education, screening, treatment and support to the medically under-served, as well as over $23 million in funds to support breast cancer. In addition, approximately 155,000 free mammograms have been funded for women in need in the local community. Komen Philadelphia distributes grants to organizations that work with the medically underserved, including uninsured and underinsured individuals and those individuals who may not receive adequate care because of barriers such as language, cultural differences and fear. In addition, Komen Philadelphia outreach initiatives, including free annual education events, target a diversity of communities to empowers people in 15 counties. Support for educational events and grants is possible due to the overwhelming response of volunteers and donors who participate in the Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure®, the Komen Philadelphia Pink Tie Ball®, many exciting and fun third party fundraisers, as well as ongoing individual and corporate donations. Each year, the Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure® raises millions of dollars and attracts approximately 100,000 people, including over 40,000 registered participants, and embraces nearly 100 local corporate sponsors, more than 20 local healthcare sponsors. Our second-largest annual fundraiser, the Komen Philadelphia Pink Tie Ball®, is attended by more than 400 community members who together with our generous corporate sponsors raise approximately $500,000 annually.
