Global Citizen Year

Description

• Global Citizen Year is the launching pad for bold high school grads who are hungry to make a real impact in the world, and to make college count. In 2016, we will select 100 talented high school seniors as Fellows and provide them with opportunities to live and work in Brazil, Ecuador, India or Senegal during a bridge year before college. During their Global Citizen Year, Fellows are immersed in everyday life in a community a world away from home. Living with a host family and contributing to local projects in fields like education, health and the environment, Fellows break down the barrier between us and them, and between the classroom and the world. Through ongoing training and coaching from expert Team Leaders, Fellows develop the confidence, skills, and sense of purpose that set them up for success in college and beyond. Beyond this, by forging lifelong relationships with host communities and a network of like-minded peers, Fellows discover that Global Citizen Year not just about the year -- its a fellowship for life. The majority of Fellows defer their college acceptance and go straight to college after their Global Citizen Year. And, increasingly, leading colleges from Princeton and Harvard to Tufts and Middlebury encourage bridge years. In fact, they advocate taking a bridge year and offer financial aid to make it possible for their most promising students. We are also committed to making our programs accessible - to date, 80% of our Fellows have received need based financial aid and 30% have participated on a fully funded Fellowship. Some call it a gap year; we think its anything but a gap -- its a bridge to greatness. Learn more at www.globalcitizenyear.org
