The Altapure technology utilizes a chemistry that is not toxic to humans, degrades into water vapor and a vinegar smell while leaving no residue. Hospitals are now looking for alternatives to UV light products, which have been shown not to be able to meet the EPA's performance standard for disinfection. A kill level less than disinfection leaves a reservoir of viable pathogenic organisms that continue to propagate.
