In the spirit of Santa Cruz our affiliate has attracted caring individuals in the community to sit on our Board of Directors, staff our offices, and to volunteer their personal time towards building affordable housing in Santa Cruz County. How the Program WorksHabitat for Humanity Santa Cruz County is not a giveaway program. Habitat homes are purchased by the homeowner families who make a down payment and pay a monthly mortgage payment. Mortgages are provided by Habitat for Humanity Santa Cruz at 0% interest. Families also invest a minimum of 500 hours of sweat labor. Homeowner families are chosen according to their need, their ability to repay the no-profit, zero-interest mortgage, and their willingness to work in partnership with Habitat.Generous GivingTogether Habitat for Humanity of Santa Cruz County volunteers and families have built more than 30 homes. Moreover, Habitat has new projects in the incubation and pre-planning stages running from the City of Santa Cruz to Watsonville. However, to build new affordable homes in Santa Cruz County, Habitat must purchase suitable properties and fund build-outs up front. We can only fund these projects with the support of kind donations from people like you.
