• OpenSignal is the de-facto source of insight into real-world mobile coverage and performance. It directly measures data from consumer devices on a global scale as opposed to traditional methods of simulating or approximating mobile experience. All data is crowdsourced by users of the OpenSignal app, downloaded over 15 million times, which constantly monitors the coverage and performance of their mobile connection. OpenSignal increases transparency in the wireless industry by publishing reports on the quality of mobile networks, offering unbiased coverage maps and empowering people with the tools they need to get better mobile connectivity in a hassle free way. Founded in 2010, OpenSignal data is regularly referenced by press (including the BBC, NYTimes and CNN), used for financial analysis (JPMorgan, Merrill Lynch, Barclays Capital), cited by regulators (OfCom, Industry Canada, FCC) and used by mobile operators around the world to help understand and improve their coverage. Our pioneering technology has won the UKTI SmartUK award and were backed by top-tier investors including Qualcomm, Passion Capital and OReilly AlphaTech Ventures. In 2015, OpenSignal also launched a spin-off of its major app: WifiMapper, a free app that helps you find Wifi nearby anywhere in the world. The app is available on both iOS and Android, and has a dataset of a few hundred million Wifi hotspots, with information on the venue, quality of the Wifi, password for some public hotspots and usage data.
