    • Making It Better is a non-profit organization that improves literacy, leadership, and life skills forunderserved elementary students. It was founded in 2006 by Jerry Davis to address thesevere disadvantages faced by low-income children in Houston. All programs provide a foundation for academic success through promotion of literacy development and students social/emotionallearning. Making It Better is an organization uniquely qualified to fill a significant gap in services within public schools through programming that includes small group reading interventions and afterschool programs that focus on building skills for future success. Additional programs include a volunteer-facilitated mentoring program, parent/toddler classes promoting reading readiness skills and Family Literacy outreach events that provide parent education, support and materials to promote literacy and reading as a way of life.
