- Samaritans mission is to reduce the incidence of suicide by alleviating despair, isolation, distress and suicidal feelings among individuals in our community, 24 hours a day; to educate the public about suicide prevention; and to reduce the stigma associated with suicide. We accomplish this through services that emphasize confidential, nonjudgmental, and compassionate listening.Samaritans is committed to serving vulnerable people of all ages, from adolescents through senior citizens, and continuing to provide free services throughout the communities of Greater Boston and MetroWest. Last year 500 helpline volunteers helped us answer 142,577 calls, we delivered 268 suicide prevention workshops and community outreaches to 12,937 people (8,338 young people), and made over 900 connections with people bereaved by suicide.
