    Description

    • WHAT IS PEFA? PEFA provides a snapshot of public financial management performance for 90 dimensions of budget planning, execution, control, review and important crucial cross-cutting issues. PEFA reports give an overview of PFM performance and highlight the implications for fiscal discipline, resource allocation and service delivery efficiency. PEFA has been a joint initiative of seven international development organizations and donors since 2001. WHAT DOES PEFA ASSESS? Each of the 90 PEFA dimensions is measured against a four point ordinal scale from A to D. The scores are aggregated into 30 high-level indicators are integrated into seven pillars, illustrated in the diagram below. The PEFA report analyses the indicator scores, along with other information, to highlight strengths and weaknesses and their implications for PFM system performance. WHAT IS PEFA USED FOR? Inform PFM reform formulation and set priorities. Instigate more in-depth investigation in specific areas. Monitor results of reform efforts. Harmonize information needs for external agencies. Compare with, and learn from, peers.
