• The Louisiana Museum Foundation was founded in 1981 as an IRS-recognized (501) (c) (3) public charitable organization through which the public could provide contributions to support the Louisiana State Museum. The Museum Foundations original articles of incorporation stated that the new organizations purpose was to receive, contract and manage gifts, grants, bequests and other property to support the programs of the Louisiana State Museum as established by the Louisiana State Museum Board In 1992 the Museum Foundations articles were amended to expand the organizations purpose to promote the Louisiana State Museum, its facilities and programs; to solicit, accept or reject donations for its own needs and for State Museum programming; and to ensure that received donations are expended per donor-wishes. Funds generated by the Museum Foundation for the benefit of the State Museum are never remitted to the state and never become part of the state budget; instead, they are administered by an experienced & professional core staff directed by an apolitical, self-perpetuating volunteer board of community leaders. What the LMF Makes Possible We provide a trusted, annually audited, independent organization for donors to provide contributions, bequests, grants and other donations for State Museum programming. We facilitate the Museums ability to attract donations and income through entrepreneurial activities, and we provide a means through which Museum projects can be more expediently & efficiently funded. Services we provide for the Louisiana State Museum -Fund, grant, contract and project budget administration -Community and educational outreach -In partnership with key Museum stafffundraising & campaign support services, including grant & proposal research and writing, and other fundraising activities -Annual events, social media, newsmagazine and other activities to cultivate Museum supporters and to promote the Museums programs and facilities
