• Spark-Y is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that empowers youth through action-oriented labs focused on sustainability and entrepreneurship. We integrate interdisciplinary curriculum with hands-on agriculture systems, such as aquaponics, mushroom growing, and vermiculture into classrooms throughout the Twin Cities metro, where we serve over 400 youth annually. Spark-Y also offers a Summer Internship Program during which up to 30 high school and college students are given the chance to become stakeholders in hyper focused, results-driven projects. A select few of these youth have gone on to become staff members of our organization. To us, sustainability is not a buzzword. It is the lifeblood of our organization. From our headquarters lab and production facility to our commitment to organizational growth at a responsible pace, we channel sustainability in everything we do. Our educational framework revolves around using STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) interdisciplinary education methods to encourage students to think like businesspeople inviting them to envision a project and collaborate to develop a business plan that will yield results.Our operations team consists of young professionals, recent graduates, college students, and high school students. Together we perfect our agricultural systems at our Sustainable Education Lab headquarters. Then we mobilize to instruct and guide students across the Twin Cities.
