Around the world, 2 billion people live without access to basic financial services like savings, insurance, pensions, and credit. Their lives are much harder because of it. But by providing people with the financial tools that they need, we can help them build better lives. For more than 50 years, Accion has been an innovator in financial inclusion, pioneering many of the industrys best practices and emerging standards. Were building the next generation of top-tier microfinance institutions, having helped build 64 such institutions in 32 countries including Myanmar, India, Peru, Tanzania, and the U.S., where we are the nations largest nonprofit microfinance network that reach millions of clients. Our impact investing initiatives are catalyzing 30 innovative start-ups dedicated to improving the efficiency, reach, and scope of financial services for the poor. These impact investing vehicles invest early- and seed-stage capital into startups that channel recent digital trends including big data, the internet of things, machine-to-machine technology, cell phones, and the internet to deliver an array of financial services to the base of the pyramid. And our Center for Financial Inclusion is helping to build a stronger industry with high standards and broad engagement. Our staff of financial inclusion experts includes specialists based in the U.S. and in our regional offices as well as advisors and managers living in-country and working beside local management. Our field-based teams are supported by a highly-skilled research and development department, as well as by experts in financial markets. Our team provides a full range of management services, technical assistance, training, and governance support to help financial institutions build institutional capacity and financial strength.
