• Victim Assistance Program helps empower the community to restore lives impacted by crisis, violence, and tragedy. We offer assistance through a 24-hour crisis hotline, court advocacy, and trauma therapy. We provide free and confidential services to approximately 6,000 unduplicated victims of crime each year in Summit County.Victim Assistance Program staff, interns and volunteers share the responsibility of providing victims with support on the 24-hour crisis hotline. Because our agency serves victims of all crime types, those answering the hotline are trained to offer compassionate and nonjudgmental crisis intervention, emotional support, safety plans, information on victims' legal rights, community referrals as well as education on common reactions crime victims may encounter.Advocates, interns and volunteers are available to help victims navigate through the municipal courts system in Akron, Barberton and Stow as well as the Summit County Juvenile Courts, Domestic Relations Courts and the Court of Common Pleas. Victims who have never been involved in the judicial system can find the process to be extremely confusing and intimidating. As a result, Victim Assistance Program provides free court advocacy services to help reduce victims anxiety by offering a variety of services based on the individuals needs.In an effort to provide holistic services to victims of crime and trauma, Victim Assistance Program employs a full-time licensed social worker with a Masters in Social Work to provide trauma focused therapy to those in need.For further information, call 330.376.0040 or check our website at victimassistanceprogram.org
