• School District 45 provides an excellent learning experience daily for over 3300 students in the west suburban Chicago areas of Villa Park, Lombard and Oakbrook Terrace. For over 150 years District 45 has been Teaching Today for Tomorrow. The District began in a one room school house down the road from Meyers Farm, and is now comprised of two middle schools and six elementary schools. Each school has a Learning Resource Center complete with a computer lab. The technology department supports staff and programs that have been awarded state and regional recognition. Every building offers art, music and physical education taught by specialists in that field. All the District 45 schools have climbing walls and each middle school houses a fitness center. The District has been recognized nationally for its conservation practices. In the 2010-11 school year, students and staff worked to reduce District wide energy costs by $475,000. Active Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) at each school combine to form a PTA Council that offers an annual arts scholarship program. Every two years the District 45 Board of Education conducts staff-parent focus groups, a parent survey and a strategic planning session for the entire community in order to set specific district priorities and goals. Community involvement is welcomed and encouraged. The seven member Board of Education meets the first and third Monday of the month beginning at 7:30 p.m.
