• The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®), a nonprofit organization founded in 1981, is responsible for accrediting institutions that offer continuing medical education (CME) to physicians and other healthcare professionals. Our mission is to set rigorous standards for quality CME that improves physician performance and medical care for patients and their communities. In other words, we work to improve the health of our communities by ensuring that physicians and healthcare teams have access to high-quality education that is designed to meet real needs, evidence-based, and independent. The ACCME is successful in its mission only because of its dedicated volunteers and the efforts of the thriving CME provider community. The ACCME System comprises a community of nearly 1,900 accredited CME providers that offer healthcare professionals more than 148,000 educational activities each year, comprising more than one million hours of instruction. These activities include about 26 million interactions with healthcare professionals. In addition to staff, approximately 20,000 volunteers contribute to advancing CME at the local, national, and international level.
