Green Platform Corporation

Description

• In the past our CEO was frustrated by the time wasted starting an application on his PC. What to do while you wait..get coffee, tweet, call a friend or wait? He had work; a problem to solve, a question to answer.Being an expert in mechanical vibration, he wondered if vibration was behind this wasted time. Placing special pieces of carbon fiber (which he developed to protect high end audio components from vibration) under the PCthe application started faster. A lot faster.Turns out disk drives are designed to slow down when a certain range of vibration is detected. This range of vibration is not obvious it does not make the drive bounce or shake - it only feels like a tingle when you touch the device.Who cares if disk drives slow down because of vibration? People working lots of data care. Systems running Big Data with Hadoop are impacted. Gleaning insights from the vast amount of data in hand is how business value is derived. The slower the process, the more time consuming the task - the longer it takes to realize value.Green Platform has a novel rack to protect the servers commonly used to run Big Data applications. Our tests show the typical and persistent levels of data center vibration will cause a big slow down in a commodity server. When the server is placed in the Green Platform rack, the performance is 30% faster. Vibration makes a difference in performance. People now have a new method to save them time and money - vibration protection.
