• Diomics Corporation is based in the Sorrento Valley area of San Diego and employs 2 to 10 people. In the immediate future, selected version(s) of the improved polymer-based collection devices, including Swab-on-sticks, 20 micron films, and DNA Nucleic Cards, will be manufactured in the Diomics laboratory facility. Initial quality control measures will involve analysis to achieve consistent high-level performance of devices and processes for their use in conjunction with our partners at UNT Health Center in Dallas, Texas. Current assays of DNA uptake and release are consistently above 70% and are typically in the 80-95% range. As the planned research and development yields results in terms of a superior collection device and protocol for its use, efforts will include the improvement and automation of manufacturing processes to allow a greater level of production. Effort will include plans and discussions for technology transfer to a contract manufacturing company, preferably one with proven marketing experience in the area of forensic and diagnostic devices. Several companies and organizations involved in DNA-based analyses have expressed interest and requested significant numbers of the PCL-based devices to test for their specific purposes. These groups will be given the first lots of the improved products and steps to actively market the device will be taken. This can involve expansion of Diomics resources or those of a partner with experience in this area. Based on estimates of the number of DNA tests, current demand for an improved device may be in the range of 10 million per year for forensic, ancestry and veterinary testing. This market is further predicted to grow as much as 10-fold in the near future.
