- Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana was incorporated in 1983 to provide a coordinated approach to alleviating hunger in East Central Indiana. Second Harvest Food Bank is the regions largest hunger-relief organization serving a hundred pantries and meal programs in Blackford, Delaware, Grant, Henry, Jay, Madison, Randolph and Wabash Counties. Second Harvest secures and distributes millions of pounds of donated food and grocery products annually in partnership with food industry donors and Feeding America, the nations food bank network. Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana supports feeding agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, womens shelters, and Kids Cafes®. These local organizations provide emergency food assistance to 69,900 million hungry Hoosiers, including more than thirty thousand children and nearly 4,900 seniors each year. Second Harvests core program is food solicitation and distribution. The organization provides direct distribution to individuals through the region-wide Tailgate Program and national BackPack program as well as meals for children through the national Kids Cafe® program in partnership with selected sites.
