• Tommy Nobis Center (now a subsidiary of Nobis Works) was founded in 1977 to serve individuals with disabilities in Metro Atlanta. In 1975, Bobbie Knopf was chair of the Department of Special Education at Northside High School. She began a needs assessment dialogue with Joyce Slaughter, the mother of one of Bobbies students. They soon realized that the options available for students with special needs after completing high school were limited, so an advisory board was formed. Having heard of Tommy Nobis' commitment to the Special Olympics, the board approached the Atlanta Falcons All-Pro linebacker for support and named the project the Tommy Nobis Center.Nobis Works has since helped more than 25,000 people with disabilities find and keep meaningful jobs. In 2017, Nobis Works will be celebrating its 40th anniversary of changing lives through employment services and job placements. Tommy Nobis Center now serves as the job training and employment service headquartered in Marietta, GA. While some clients train at the center, most train with Nobis Works supervisors at community worksites including Wellstar, Owens & Minor and Kroger. Nobis Enterprises provides business solutions for federal, state and local governments. Employees with severe disabilities provide administrative, mailroom, janitorial and other support services at worksites including Dobbins Air Reserve Base, the CDC and the SSA. Business Solutions provide cost effective, high-quality production and fulfillment solutions. Nobis Works 39,000-square-foot warehouse is equipped with six loading docks, forklifts, shrink wrappers, heat sealers and more. Café Blends: Blending Autism into the Workplace is a partnership with Asbury Automotive Group that focuses specifically on hiring individuals on the autism spectrum. Nobis Works hires, trains and supports young adults as baristas at five dealerships in GA, FL and SC.
