- Folk Alliance International (FAI) has a mission:To nurture, engage and empower the international folk music community traditional and contemporary, amateur and professional through education, advocacy and performance.Since 1989, FAI has provided advocacy, support, networking, showcase opportunities and professional development services for the international folk music community.With more than 3,000 members worldwide, the annual conference is the world's largest gathering of the folk music industry and community, and one of the five largest music conferences in North America.Members include individuals, organizations and businesses and the annual February conference draws over 2,500 artists, presenters, agents, managers, music support services reps, manufacturers, record companies, publishers, radio DJs, funders and others that work in the folk music field.FAI has five regional affiliates that provide conferences and services in their respective markets.FAI is a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization based in Kansas City, MO.
