• The HEAR Scholarship Foundation provides financial and mentoring support to low-income Chicagoland high school seniors who demonstrate academic excellence, commitment to community, and person integrity in their pursuit of a college education. The HEAR Scholarship Foundation is a public 501(c)3 organization whose program started in 2009 based on the idea of supporting deserving young Chicagoans who have the ability, but not the financial means, to support a college education. Each year, HEAR awards up to 30 renewable $20,000 scholarships, paid in increments of $5,000/year for four years which are sent directly to the college for room, tuition and board. HEAR also provides a mentoring program for our scholars based on the Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring, developed by MENTOR|The National Mentoring Partnership. Scholars draw on a combination of individual mentoring support as well as the help and advice of a HEAR Director of Mentoring. Our college success rate (both in terms of graduation and annual progression) stands at 98%. To-date, HEAR has awarded over 100 scholarships to low-income high school seniors from the Chicagoland area, committing in excess of $2.2million to our scholarship program. HEAR believes that gaining work experience in your chosen field is of utmost importance. In addition to its scholarship and mentoring program, HEAR also provides assistance to current scholars in their search for internships. Approximately 70% of HEAR's current scholars are first-generation college goers who have no networks they can call on to try and get internship assistance. HEAR uses its network of contacts, donors and supporters to offer opportunities to scholars who may otherwise not have the connections to secure such experiences.
