- Lantern Theater Company is committed to an authentic and intimate exploration of the human spirit in our choice of classics, modern, and original works for the stage. We seek to be a vibrant and contributing member of our community, exposing audiences to great theater, inviting participation in dialogue and discussion, engaging audience members on artistic and social issues, and employing theatrical language and techniques to enrich learning in the classroom. Each season, we reach a loyal audience of over 20,000 with an eclectic range of work through three award-winning programs: mainstage productions that are smart, engaging, and connected to our modern world; community and audience enrichment programs through which we explore relevant and timely topics related to each play; and innovative education programming, including Illumination in-school residencies and the Lantern Theater School. Since the inception of the Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre in 1995, we have received 94 nominations and 19 awards, including the 2009 Award for Excellence in Theatre Education and Community Service.
