• Survive2Thrive Foundation, a 501c3 organization, is an advocate-supported resource ecosystem for survivors of domestic violence and abuse (DVA). In the state of Texas alone, the Texas Council on Family Violence reports that in 2015, more than 39% of the victims that will seek shelter services, will be turned away due to these lack of facilities to hold them and their families and placed on a wait list. Because of this, they become displaced and experience a very distinct form of homelessness. Nationally, it is estimated the wait list (unmet requests for shelter) has reached up to an estimated 150,000 survivors yearly. We suspect this number triples when you take into consideration the DVA survivors and their children who never come to the shelter at all. When a victim leaves their violent home, they are often referred to their local emergency shelter. When they arrive, they are asked to complete an intake process to determine if they are a potential candidate for shelter and supporting services. If there is no immediate space available, the survivor's information may be placed on a wait list, so they can be contacted in the case that space opens up and they and their children can come back and stay. Some shelters required survivors to call back on a weekly basis to see if there is room available. Survive2Thrive's mission is to provide life-changing resources to these wait listed survivors and to create a sustainable recovery path to self-sufficiency for all survivors of domestic violence. Our program goals for the DVA survivors we support are: Safety and Stabilization, Resource Management, Confidence Building, and Self Sufficiency and Independence.
