• Sargent Town Planning is an urban planning consulting practice focused on building sustainable pedestrian- and transit-oriented neighborhoods, districts, corridors, towns and cities. Founded by David Sargent 1995 and based in downtown Los Angeles, we provide urban planning and design services to public and private clients throughout the United States. Our work integrates human-scale public space networks and multi-modal transportation systems with a full range of development types to form complete, diverse, regionally grounded, sustainable communities.We lead community-based planning processes, organized around public workshops and design charrettes, in which all stakeholders contribute to a clear, richly illustrated vision plan. Beginning with rigorous analysis of the area and its physical, economic, regulatory and political realities, we structure a sustained community conversation through which alternatives are considered and tested, converging on a preferred vision plan. Based on the emerging consensus, we prepare a richly illustrated vision plan and reverse engineer it into a systematic set of strategies, policies, regulations, guidelines, procedures and actions to support plan implementation through coordinated public and private improvements over time. Implementation support services include preparation of vision-based development codes and design guidelines, phasing and financing strategies, and on-going design and design review support.
