JAC debuted the new passenger vehicle in April at the Beijing Auto Show. The iEV5 is powered by an electric motor with a 68ps output and a 70Ah lithium-ion battery, sporting a range of up to 200km and a top speed of 120km/h. Charging takes eight hours on 220V. Using a fast charger, the battery can reach 80% of capacity in less than 2.5 hours. Selling at a price of US$15,000 after green-car subsidies from central and local governments, JAC and SinoEV are increasing production to meet an expected demand of 1,000 vehicles per month for the remainder of 2015. Achieving this scale of production was part of OPSs long-term growth strategy of building production capacity organically with demand, while targeting a key market poised for growth in the EV sector. OPS then used its systems engineering expertise to design one of the most advanced, cost-effective battery solutions. In approaching new designs, OPS takes a technology neutral approach to cell chemistry and form factor. OPS has designed multiple packs using standard 18650 small format cylindrical cells, prismatic cells and pouch cells, using cell chemistries such as lithium-ion NMC, lithium iron phosphate and lithium titanate. The company is already expanding to its third manufacturing facility to meet customer demand, which will take annual production capacity to more than 1GW.
