Aguaclara Llc

Description

• AguaClara LLC is a social enterprise born out of Cornell University, where for the past 10 years the lab has been developing the first community-scale, non-electric water treatment technologies in the world. This is an award-winning technology (Tech Awards 11, Katerva Awards 13) that was created to offer resource-poor communities a more affordable option to get clean water on tap delivered to their homes. Since 2005, AguaClara engineers have provided design and technical support services to development organizations and local governments in the construction of 11 full-scale water treatment plants throughout Honduras, serving over 52,000 people in all. These plants can be operated by a single person, are made from all locally available materials, and are entirely powered by gravity.Graduates of the Cornell AguaClara program formed AguaClara LLC in 2013 to begin offering direct, professional services to implement the technology beyond Honduras. The company's first two pilot plants in the Khunti District of Jharkhand, India, have now been completed, testing the viability of one of AguaClaras newest technologies: the Stacked Rapid Sand (StaRS) filter. These projects were funded as part of an initiative by the Tata Trust in India.AguaClara LLCs goal is not simply to deliver safe water on tap to as many people as possible, but to have that lead to improvements in health and productivity, a reduction in waterborne diseases and under-5 mortality rates, an increase in disposable income, and a rise in happiness that comes with community ownership and management of a vital service. AguaClara LLC became a Certified B Corp in December 2014 and was named to B Corp's Best for the World Overall list in 2015. We are committed to using business as a force for good.
