- We live in a perilous moment for cultural equality. Half of the worlds 7,000 language communities will collapse within 80 years. That means 3000 cultures are about to vanish. We need a unified front against this reality. Wikitongues is a movement for language rights. We raise awareness about linguistic diversity and empower language activists to strengthen and defend their communities. Together with speakers and signers from around the world, we're building the most culturally inclusive archive ever made, recording oral histories and dictionaries in every language in the world before its too late. We're an international volunteer community and non-profit organization based in Brooklyn, New York. Our growing movement is powered by the work of 150 volunteers based in 45 countries on every continent. Among us are members of critically endangered language communities, speakers of Tsakonika and Ainu, some whose own languages had never been attested, such as Nafasana, and activists fighting to revive the languages of their communities, as with Cornish.
