Carrollwood Area Business Association

Description

• In the fall of 1985, the height of the Ronald Reagan era was in full swing. Construction across America was booming. Our Carrollwood community in Florida's Northwest Hillsborough County was no different. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) kicked off the expansion of North Dale Mabry Highway (a major thoroughfare in Tampa) from two to four lanes. A prior expansion of Waters Avenue blocked customers from ingress and egress to local businesses who subsequently closed.About sixteen very concerned business owners convened to make sure their collaborative voice was heard during the construction process. The group asked FDOT to work with them, so customers could access their businesses, and local businesses could survive the improvement. A business-government partnership was formed, leading to one of the first major state of Florida construction projects completed almost exclusively at night. In March of 1986, CABA founder John Baumann noticed business to business referrals and networking among members of the group and asked the members to stay together and create a business networking group. The Carrollwood Area Business Association (CABA) was formed, and CABA was born! From the very beginning, We helped ourselves by helping others! This slogan continues to be at the forefront of what being a Member of CABA is all about. Now in our 30th year, CABA is over 500 business professionals strong, and continues to be The Best Business Address in Tampa Bay!
