- Proteus is a non-profit 501(c )3 organization that has been in business in Iowa since 1979. The granted programs are National Farmworker Jobs Program, Migrant and Seasonal Farmworker Health Project and the Homeless Project. Through the National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP), Proteus assists more than 100 farmworkers looking for new employment opportunities every year in Iowa and Nebraska. Eligible clients may recieve tuition assistance, job counseling & preparation, on-the-job training opportunities, and job placement assistance. Through the Migrant Health Project, Proteus provides primary health care services to more than 1500 migrant and seasonal farmworkers in Iowa every year. Based on the geographical need, Proteuss bi-lingual health aides & Physician Assistants host remote clinics throughout the state into areas where migrant workers are located. The Homeless Outreach Project is able to utilize Proteus status as a major service provider for Hispanic clients to provide financial assistance for all homeless clients or those facing eviction in the Greater Des Moines area. Proteus has a Food Pantry and Clothing Closets in all three Iowa locations for all families in need.The Hola Program brings together several agencies to bring the Hispanic community a varitey of services in one place, once a month.
