- My Story As a child, I grew up surrounded by song and accents; as my father was both a musician, as well as a charismatic storyteller. He had the ability to transform his voice into a variety of foreign accents and regional dialects which he used to act out his many stories. This exposure to voice, speech and sound, along with inheriting some of his talent, inspired my love for music and language. I mastered the piano, developed a keen ear for voice and vocal shaping, and studied the melodies of various languages. I entered college as a double-major in both Communication and Music. Later, I faced some life-altering events, where I witnessed firsthand the healing power of rehabilitation medicine through speech and physical therapy. It was at this time that I chose to pursue a degree in Speech Language Pathology. I was on a mission to learn all that I could about every aspect of communication. So by night, I took my graduate courses, and by day I worked full-time in the field of audiology and hearing science. After I graduated with a Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology I became an ASHA Certified Speech Language Pathologist receiving the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. For years, I provided speech pathology services to patients in US hospitals and rehab centers, as well as to countless children born with communication, speech and swallowing issues. Although this work was extremely rewarding, my passion and fascination with accents and pronunciation led me to open a private practice serving foreign-born individuals who wished to be better understood in American English.
