Description

• With over 24,000 firms now SBIR fundedsome 6500 currently activethis population of c.500,000 graduate-level engineers & scientists across every field of industrial/ technical endeavor is arguably largest single concentration of demonstrated technical talent.SBIR is usefully understood as massively distributed R&D facility. For those in large(r) firms tasked with External Sourcing/ Open Innovation, the challengeand opportunityis systematic, sustainable mining of this resource to address corporate needs. Searching published abstracts, attending agency-initiated events showcasing funded projects or participation in networking efforts may be interesting but lack of specific focus make them rarely very useful. Engaging this major talent pool is far less about SBIR awards as it is about what awardees can do: their skill-sets & capabilitiesOur comprehensive SBIR focused systems shows 3200+ Corporate Entities having SBIR connection - an increasing percentage with several Awardees and on an ongoing basis. Taking many and different forms, our data shows the wrokingrelationships involves some one-third of awardees actively engaged. But these numbers belie the relative chaos & serendipity of the effort. Far too much unrealized value; there had to be a better way! Offered by Ann Eskesen - part of small group that created SBIR and longtime leading SBIR advocate - the needs-driven ASSETs (Access SBIR-STTR Scientific & Engineering Talent system) is grounded in tracking all aspects of technical/business condition of every SBIR Awardee. Anchored in a sophisticated Context relevant, Technical Thesaurus and powerful, algorithm-driven Expertise Precision Sourcing (ExPreS), some $250M+ of transactions between interested Tech Seekers and the 'right' SBIR-validated small firms have already been achieved. This highly integrated system of match Tech Seekers to SBIR Awardees is entirely focused on identifying precisely those small firms having the relevant skill-sets and capability - this is NOT AT ALL about crowd-sourcing .Delivery vehicles now include (1) a twice annual, private-sector funded version of SBIR: Tech Seeker sponsored, needs-driven R&D and (2) a highly sophisticated form of enabling both in- and out-licensing called iP3. Drawing down on the experience and developed methods of very best of the University Tech Transfer Offices, the effort is both to monetize the relevant parts of the 13-15 patents - many well cited - that issue daily to SBIR involved firms while also enabling effective (currency-equivalent) use of the viable but too small-market IP of many Tech Seekers.
