- The Ohio Department of Commerce helps businesses and individuals operate safely and within stateand federal laws and regulations. This helps protect the interests of consumers and ensure the safetyof Ohioans. The Department's mission is to safeguard Ohios citizens and visitors, their property and resources while ensuring reliable marketplaces conducive to business growth and prosperity.Commerce is made up of seven consumer-facing operating divisions and the Division of Administration, under which falls the Medical Marijuana Control Program. Each division plays a key role in achieving the Departments mission.The Division of Administration provides overall leadership and administrative support for all Divisions. The Division of Financial Institutions (DFI) ensures Ohioans money is safe by regulating financial institutions and service providers. This includes examining, supervising, and regulating Ohio state-chartered financial institutions, and licensing and regulating non-depository institutions.The Division of Industrial Compliance (DIC) and its associated boards ensure Ohioans are safe in public buildings such as businesses, educational institutions and municipal buildings.The Division of Liquor Control (DLC) supports Ohios economy by providing funding for job creation and business development through the proceeds from Ohios liquor industry. DLC ensures Ohioans have access to the products they want to purchase while encouraging the responsible consumption of alcohol.The Medical Marijuana Section ensures the safety of the public and access to a safe, medical product under Ohios Medical Marijuana Control Program. The program allows people with qualifying medical conditions, upon the recommendation of an Ohio-licensed physician certified by the State Medical Board, to purchase and use medical marijuana.The Division of Real Estate & Professional Licensing (REPL) helps ensure Ohioans investment in their largest asset their homes is a sound one. REPL also registers cemeteries and real estate developments located in other states that are marketed in Ohio, and provides services, education and outreach to cable consumers, local governments and cable providers.The Division of Securities (SEC) protects Ohioans life savings and investments by administering and enforcing the Ohio Securities Act.
