• METAL-FREE MEDICAL SOLUTIONS The mission of ALKYMOS, Inc. is to design, synthesize, evaluate and manufacture chelators and chelator-based devices for laboratory, industrial, animal and human applications. ALKYMOS, Inc. is a Kentucky C corporation, founded in 2006. The founders are scientists/researchers at the University of Kentucky (Robert A. Yokel, Ph.D., President; Robert J. Kuhn, PharmD., Secretary/Treasurer; and Chang-Guo Zhan, Ph.D.) and the University of Missouri-St. Louis (Wesley R. Harris, Ph.D. and Christopher D. Spilling, Ph.D.). The companys objective is to develop immobilized chelators to remove metals from solutions. ALKYMOSs mission is to design, synthesize, evaluate, and manufacture chelators and chelator-based devices for laboratory, industrial, animal, and human applications. The core competencies, derived from the collaborative strength of the founders, are in metal toxicity, toxicokinetics, speciation, and chelation (Yokel and Harris); clinical issues related to aluminum toxicity (Kuhn), computational chemistry to guide synthesis of novel ligands as chelators (Zhan); and synthetic organic medicinal chemistry (Spilling). We have developed an immobilized chelator that complexes and removes aluminum from solutions in the presence of high gluconate and calcium concentrations, without complexing calcium.
