Porthouse Theatre

Description

• Porthouse Theatre is Kent State University's summer professional theatre located on the grounds of Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Since 1968, Kent State University has participated with the Cleveland Orchestra in the development of Blossom Music Center as a total environment for the arts. In this incomparable outdoor setting, performance and education come together through the collaboration of working professionals and talented young artists from across the United States. Each summer the Kent/Blossom Arts programs, established within the Universitys College of the Arts, fosters these special learning relationships in art, music, and theatre. Porthouse Theatre, originally known as Kent/Blossom Theatre, provides unique opportunities for developing actors, designers, technicians, and managers to work side by side with established professionals to refine their skills and talents. The 2015 Porthouse Company includes more than 120 artists-in training selected through nationally held auditions and interviews. Company members work as scenic carpenters and artists, electricians, lighting and sound technicians, in costumes and wardrobe, as house and company managers, in the box office, in facilities and concessions, and as performers. The Young Professional Company serves as the theatres performers-in-residence throughout the summer, playing ensemble, supporting, and featured roles alongside professionals in each production. Now in its 47th year, Porthouse has entertained scores of Northeast Ohio theatregoers and trained countless developing theatre artists. With nearly 20,000 annual visitors and 3500 annual subscribers, Porthouse Theatre has presented more than 3,000 performances of over 175 plays and musicals and entertained more than 350,000 patrons to date. Porthouse Theatre currently operates under a University Resident Theatre (U/RTA) Contract with Actors Equity Association. For more information, visit www.porthousetheatre.com
