• Founded in 1979, The Mountain Retreat & Learning Center is private non-profit program and conference center, a summer youth camp, and a retreat for individuals and groups where people can grow and renew themselves. Annually more than 4,000 people from 35 states visit The Mountain.Mission and Values-The Mountains mission is to embrace the diversity of life, creating an environment to energize people to work for positive change. Historically associated with Unitarian Universalism, The Mountain believes that motivated, informed and skilled individuals and groups who share a common purpose can transform the culture, especially when people of all ages are engaged. In addition to embracing the diversity of life, we respect the inherent worth and dignity of every individual, and are committed to justice, equity and compassion in human relations. We encourage guests, staff and volunteers to embark on a free and responsible search for truth and meaning by engaging in new patterns of thinking and to continually learn together in community and as individuals in order to enhance their personal and professional lives. An essential component of our work is our commitment to preserving The Mountains unique ecosystem and modeling environmental sustainability.
