One Vibe Africa (Kisumu & Seattle)

Description

• One Vibe Africa is a unique groundbreaking scalable model for youth empowerment. Weve served over 500 Kenyan youth through our Education Music & Art Program (EMAP). For example, students in our guitar & vocal classes at EMAP learnt singing through Shamir, their producer & instructor. Towards the end of their stint at EMAP they collaborated with Nazizi, the first female rapper in Kenya. The experience allowed our students to work directly with a public figure they look up to. They were deeply inspired; they learnt script writing, raising funds, filmmaking, and marketing. In Seattle, weve held Madaraka Festival annually at the prestigious EMP Museum since 2014. Madaraka has attracted over 2,000 patrons, reached over 3 million people digitally, and created a platform for artists from under served communities to gain international exposure. Grammy Award winners, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis headlined the first Madaraka Festival. Since then the event has attracted the best talent in the African diaspora including Blitz the Ambassador, Yirim Seck, DBi Young Anitafrika, Owuor Arunga, Nik West, Sauti Sol, Choklate, Black Stax, Draze, Gabriel Teodros among others. Madaraka Festival brings the African and African American communities in Seattle together. The event has raised over $94,000 towards One Vibes work in Kenya. One Vibe has also facilitated over 40 innovators, filmmakers, and artists from Seattle to travel to Kenya to collaborate with their counterparts. We hope to sustain One Vibe Africa in the long term through Madaraka Festival, One Vibe Films, One Vibe Studio, and other revenue generating social businesses we are developing. Our activities are complex, but totally integrated to support each other. For example, proceeds from Madaraka Festival in Seattle funded the creation of One Vibe Studio, and One Vibe Films in Kisumu.
