- Let It Be Us is an Illinois 501(c)(3) advocating for the adoption and education of children within the foster care system. We are the first nonprofit of our kind and and through innovation, creativity and strong partnerships our programming has lifelong impacts. The Let It Be Us Operating Programs Are: Heart Gallery We have built a well-engineered website to be used as a tool to recruit for social workers and adoption recruiters to find adoptive parents. A Heart Gallery is an online gallery of photographs and stories of children available for adoption. The statistic used for this type of parent recruitment is astounding. If a child is placed in an online gallery, he or she has a 50% chance of finding a forever family. If not, the chance is 5%. Our Heart Gallery will be the first to exist outside of the Illinois state system. Finding Forever Families Program Let It Be Us directly recruits long-term foster parents and adoptive parents in partnerships with libraries, school districts and social service agencies in the Chicago area. Educational Mentorship Program We recruit, train and certify (complete with a federal background check) educational mentors and assign them to older children who live in group homes. An educational plan/goal is constructed for each child, and while the mentor sees this through, we provide for educational materials and other needs that arise. Its important to note that inevitably, through our work, we discover impediments to education such as hunger, comfort and medical needs. These children often need food, new glasses, creative educational materials, computers and, most importantly, one-on-one tutors. Let It Be Our Voice Program We meet with Illinois State Senators and Representatives to inform them of current needs within the Illinois foster care system. Many of the legislators view the Let It Be Us programs as a part of the long term fiscal solution for the State. To learn more or to volunteer, visit www.letitbeus.org.
