• LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes Misson Statement:LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes (LA Plaza) serves as the official cultural center of Los Angeles dedicated to educating the public about the seminal role of Mexicans, Mexican Americans, and Latinos in the development of our region, and to provide diverse audiences with the opportunities to experience the richness of Mexican American culture.LA Plaza serves the public by providing educational experiences and public programs which integrate art, history, cuisine, and culture that are both educational and entertaining. In the community, residents can participate in meaningful programs occurring at schools, and various other partnering organizations throughout the county.LA Plaza was born through a partnership with Los Angeles County as a new addition to the existing family of County cultural institutions which includes the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Natural History Museum, the Music Center, and Grand Park. As part of this partnership, the County provides funding to support mainenance and operations, two historic structures, and approximately two acres of land, including an onsite 30,000 sq.ft. garden.As an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, LA Plaza has access to the Smithsonian Institutions collections and scholarship to create an even richer experience for visitors. Collaborations with local cultural centers and community organizations also strengthen LA Plaza's ability to fulfill its mission.
