• The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub is an independent, non-profit medical research organization. Our vision is to develop and apply technologies that will enable doctors to cure, prevent or manage all diseases during our childrens lifetime. We dont believe in impossible. We believe in challenging traditional scientific approaches and inventing the future of life science research. We are striving to make life better by facilitating collaboration among the worlds most creative, determined and brilliant people to solve humanitys biggest problems. We were founded in 2016 with a gift from Dr. Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg. We have also received a generous donation from Reid Hoffman and Michelle Yee. They all share our belief that by combining technology, engineering and human curiosity, we can accelerate life science research. One of our two launch projects is the Infectious Disease Initiative. Unforeseen disease outbreaks, ranging from SARS and Ebola to Zika virus and Dengue highlight the need for faster, smarter responses. Our scientists and engineers will apply the most advanced technologies to support the fight against infectious diseases. Our second launch project is the Cell Atlas, in which we are helping to build an international collaboration that will map the cell types of the human body. The map will be available to researchers around the world. The Cell Atlas project will help unlock many mysteries of cell biology related to the causes of human disease, potentially leading to new therapies. The technologies that make the Cell Atlas possible are new, and many of them were developed by scientists now leading the CZ Biohub. In addition to the launch projects, we run the CZ Biohub Investigator Program. The programs funds dozens of renowned scientists, engineers and technologists from UC Berkeley, Stanford, and UCSF as they pursue their riskiest and most exciting ideas in the fight to end human disease.
