    • Hickory Spine is focused on the triage and objective diagnosis of traumatically induced spinal ligament tears commonly referred to as a sprain. Dr. Shook has extensive training in diagnosing, treating and prognosing spinal ligament tears. Spinal sprain/strain is the number one diagnosis made in medicine regarding back pain, and though there are 3 grades of sprains, or ligament tears, these injuries and conditions are almost never graded. Due to the low standard of care in the diagnosis of spinal ligament tears, patients are being mismanaged, misdiagnosed, and over medicated. There is an epidemic of prescription drug overdose and subsequent death, and the back pain epidemic is one of the primary drivers of this problem. Better diagnosis allows for the formulation of better treatment plans and ultimately better outcomes and quality of life for patients. Dr. Shook teaches medical doctors and specialists about the objective diagnosis and treatment of ligament tears throughout the country. He has developed a medical legal training website for defense and plaintiff attorneys, insurance adjusters and Special Investigation Unit professionals with the goal of sharing evidence based information, based on peer-reviewed indexed medical literature so that facts, not rhetoric rule the day.Dr. Shook is an expert witness with certifications in Spinal Biomechanical Engineering and MRI Interpretation.
