- Bandera Electric Cooperative Inc., is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative. As a member, you are a member-owner of a not-for-profit, independent electric utility. Bandera Electric was founded in 1938 to provide our area with reliable and affordable power and operates by the Seven Cooperative Principles.BEC distributes electricity to more than 24,000 members and more than 34,000 meters in a 7 county territory that's one-third larger than the state of Rhode Island. Our employees operate and maintain more than 4,464 miles of power lines which, if connected end to end, would stretch from our headquarters in Bandera, Texas, to Las Vegas, over to Chicago and back. As a cooperative, BEC is locally owned and operated by our members. We are democratically governed by a Board of Directors elected at the annual meeting to represent our members while conducting the business of the cooperative. The board ensures the cooperative is legally and ethically run according to its by-laws and Code of Ethics.
