• Baltimore Child Abuse Center (BCAC) is a leader in responding to and preventing child sexual abuse. Its primary activities focus on intervention when abuse is reported, treatment to aid in the healing of survivors and their families, education around recognizing, preventing and reporting suspicions of abuse, and advocacy at the local, state, and national levels. BCACs comprehensive services in these areas address the immediate and long-term challenges that child sexual abuse poses to the Baltimore region.BCACs primary purpose is to give child victims of abuse a voice. Finding out what exactly happened to a child who alleges sexual abuse is a complex process involving multiple investigatory agencies. BCAC simplifies this process by providing a single point of contact with the child and provides all reported victims of child sexual abuse in Baltimore and their non-offending caretakers with comprehensive forensic interviews, medical treatment, and mental health treatment with a goal of preventing future abuse.BCAC is a private, non-profit 501(c)3 childrens advocacy center, the oldest childrens advocacy center in Maryland and the only one not operating as a local, government-funded agency. As a chartered, accredited member of the national Childrens Alliance and the Maryland Childrens Alliance, BCAC serves approximately 1,100 children and their families every year.
