• The Center for Italian Modern Art (CIMA) is a non-profit organization that opened its doors in February 2014. Located in a loft in SoHo, we promote modern Italian art, support new scholarship in the field, and foster cultural dialogue between Italy and the US. Each academic year, we present one major exhibition, fund a number of fellowships for emerging art historians of any nationality, and offer a wide range of public programs. EXHIBITIONS AND PROGRAMS We present exhibitions of Italian masters rarely seen in the US in our SoHo space, a loft designed to feel like a home and to foster an intimate experience with great works of art. Our annual, October-through-June exhibition allows our visitors and scholars-in-residence to enjoy an extended and intimate contact with exceptional art. This is the legacy that our founder, art historian and collector Laura Mattioli, brought to New York through CIMA as heritage of her father, collector Gianni Mattioli, who in the 1950s and 60s opened his Milan apartment to the public to give weekly tours of his collection - which included masters such as Giorgio Morandi, Giorgio De Chirico, Amedeo Modigliani, and the Italian Futurists. In this same spirit, CIMAs fellows welcome the public on Fridays and Saturdays with a complimentary espresso and give tours in small groups so as to foster close interaction and inspiring discussions. A catalogue with contributions by our fellows is published in conjunction with each season. Our installations are open-ended platforms for new scholarship and our broad range of public programs. Each season we present study days, contemporary artist talks, sketch nights, family events, screenings, and more! CIMA is open for guided visits, led by our fellows, on Fridays and Saturdays at 11am, 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm, October through June. Group tours can be made by appointment on other days. Visits are $10; free for students and members.
