• Zara Environmental LLC (Zara) was founded in 2003 by Dr. Jean Krejca and Peter Sprouse. Zaras services include biological and hydrogeological assessments, environmental compliance, and land management. Our biological specialties include avifauna, herpetofauna, freshwater mussels, freshwater fishes, bats, and karst fauna. We help landowners, governments, and developers obtain endangered species take permits and fulfill permit obligations. We conduct groundwater studies and Geologic Assessments for the Texas Commission on Environmental Qualitys Edwards Aquifer Protection program. Zara drafts endangered species recovery plans, habitat conservation plans, and groundwater reports. Our projects include groundwater dye tracing, cave studies, presence/absence surveys for endangered species and rare mussels, invasive fire ant control, environmental compliance monitoring, peer review of studies for scientific validity, bat habitat assessments, salamander mark/recapture studies, radio tracking and isotope studies of cave crickets, and drafting management/monitoring plans. Zara has also assisted clients in the creation of bird habitat mitigation banks. We are registered as a Geoscience Firm by the Texas State Board of Professional Geoscientists with State Licensed Professional Geologists.We also hold US Fish and Wildlife Service 10(a)(1)(A) permits for endangered karst, salamander, aquatic and bird species, Texas Parks and Wildlife Scientific Research Permits fir work with state-listed freshwater mussels, amphibians, reptiles, and bats. We are pre-certified by TXDOT for Wetland Delineation, Nationwide Permits, Water Pollution Abatement Plans, Protected Species Habitat Determination, Impact Evaluation Assessments, and Biological Surveys. Zara is a state certified Historically Under Utilized Business (HUB) and is certified as a Small Business Enterprise (SBE), Woman-owned Business Enterprise (WBE), and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) by other local entities.
